Ice Cream for Breakfast

I just gave Titus a bite of my (coffee) ice cream and he said, "it tastes like coffee." When I asked him how he knows what coffee tastes like he replied, "I'm so smart." Then he said it's "delicious" and to "give me more."

And, yes, I was eating ice cream for breakfast...with pumpkin roll.

Identical Boys

I'm starting to really enjoy dressing the boys alike. Steve says I only have so long that I can do this before it isn't so cute anymore or that Titus will fight me on it...so I'm getting it all in while I can.

they look thrilled, don't they?-

Four Months Later

It's a peaceful morning here, finally. Titus has just recently started sleeping until 8:00 in the morning. It has been a nice change from his normal 7:00 wake up. Even 7am isn't early, but when up at night with a newborn it seemed to come much too early for me. Added to the fact that I am not a morning person. And even though Titus isn't up yet, I am. Quincy was up at 6. He just went back to sleep a few minutes ago. I hear the hum of his swing. It's rainy this morning and I am enjoying it. I have my morning cappuccino with whipped cream. It's my moment of pleasure. I make one every morning. It's not even caffeinated, I just feel cozy drinking it.

Titus is up now. He went to Quincy, kissed him on the head then looked out the windows at the rain and said, "it's a nice day!"

Our life is starting to settle into a routine. Titus loves his brother. I'm no longer in a complete state of exhaustion. Quincy is starting to sleep longer at night, but is fussy in the evenings. Steve is still trying to find a balance to it all. Through it all though, our household is finally getting the joy back in it. It was missing for awhile. Through the stress of the move, the new baby, Steve's new job, missing our Florida school, church, beach, atmosphere...we struggled for a while. It's better now. We're managing it all...the stress, the work load, the emotions.

We've been here for four months now. The weather has changed. Titus is experiencing fall for the first time. It seems so strange to think that it's still warm in south Florida. If we were there now, we'd be spending our evenings and weekends on the beach. It makes me sad that Quincy isn't growing up there and hasn't been to the beach yet. It was at about this age with Titus that we moved. At just four weeks Titus had put his teeny toes in the sand on the beach at Ft. Lauderdale while we were down interviewing for the job at CCA. When he was six weeks we were packing up our house and getting ready for our big move. I have a big frame with various pictures of Titus' first year of life, all of them were taken on the beach. I'm not sure what Quincy's frame will look like.

Early Fall

The beauty of fall is here. I've never been one to like the fall. It always made me feel a sort of sadness. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe because it means the end of summer. Sometimes I think it came from when Steve and I were dating and he was still in college. The fall meant him going back to school (in Virginia). Although I think it started before that. I know it's probably made worse in recent years because my brother died in the fall. Whatever the reason, As far back as I can remember the fall brought with it feelings of sadness. This year though, I've been enjoying it. Maybe it's because I've had a break from it the past two years. We moved to Florida in early September of 2008 and didn't come back to PA until the end of November for Thanksgiving. The following year we left PA in early August after spending the summer here and didn't return until Christmas. It's been nice this year to watch the change of seasons. In Florida we could feel the change in seasons (it did get cooler), but not see it so clearly.

The fall probably has a new meaning also this year as I get to watch Titus enjoy it. It has been a bit warm to really feel like fall yet. I didn't think that Titus would be playing in the leaves in shorts and a t-shirt. :)

A Little Smirk

One Month

On Sunday my sister commented that Quincy was a month old. I said, "no, he's only four weeks." Then I quickly realized that it was October 3rd and Quincy was indeed a month. Time has flown. Probably because I've been half asleep for most of it. :) A month of mostly sleepless nights sure does take a toll on one. At this point Quincy is waking every 2 and a half hours. He still isn't going right back to sleep, sometimes awake for two hours in the middle of the night. He is starting to be awake more during the day and hopefully that will soon lead to him sleeping more at night. Our days are once again going well. After a great first few days as a family of four, then a rough week of me trying to juggle two boys alone, things now are going smoothly. Titus has been well behaved (as much as a two year can be) and is loving his brother. He seems to have taken to his new big brother role. He refers to Quincy as "his" and is always concerned with knowing where Quincy is. He is constantly kissing and hugging him. I'm amazed at how much Quincy has changed his looks already. I don't remember Titus changing so quickly. He is filling out in his face and growing longer. He has outgrown his newborn clothes and even some of his size three month pajamas. He is starting to make little noises and will focus on Steve or I for long periods of time. We think he is going to be the more laid back, relaxed son...at least we hope so. :) It's been fun to have a newborn in this chilly weather. It feels so new since Titus was born in July and then we moved to Florida the first of September before it started to get cool. My favorite moments are being snuggled up on the couch with Quincy sleeping on my chest.

Titus Goes To School

Titus has been really into imaginary play lately. He'll pretend to be an animal or pretend to see an animal behind a piece of furniture. Steve tells him a story every night at bedtime and I wonder if that has added to his imagination. On Sunday morning he found his little lunchbox in the cabinet, packed it with trucks, and said he was going to school. Steve then brought him the little desk and set him up for school. Of course the teacher in Steve quickly fed into his "game." The desk was my moms when she was a girl, then I played with it as a girl. This is the first that Titus has played with it. He kept running to his room to get more books.

He sat for a while "reading"...then said he was going to the park.
